James Beard nominated chef Douglass Williams is chef/owner of MIDA Boston, MIDA Newton, MIDA East Boston, APIZZA Boston and DW French. Honored as a Food & Wine Best New Chef and Best Chef, General Excellence, Boston Magazine, the nomination by the James Beard Foundation recognizes Williams’ talent and leadership in the culinary world.
It is an extraordinarily challenging time to be a chef in the kitchen, and Williams continues to inspire and bring people to the table. He is convinced the world can
and should come together over a beautiful bowl of pasta.
A native of Atlantic City, NJ, Williams was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease as a teenager, and found himself in the kitchen at an early age learning how to heal himself through food. As curious as he is creative, Williams graduated from culinary school and then traveled, always while learning from the best. From Thailand to Paris, New York City to Boston, he worked and staged at renowned restaurants such as Akarme/Paris, Corton/NYC, Radius/Boston and Coppa/Boston before opening his first restaurant, MIDA Boston.
In 2016 Williams opened MIDA at the corner of Boston’s South End and Roxbury neighborhoods. He saw a real opportunity to bring the community together here, and the city embraced the chef and his team. In 2021 and 2022 Williams opened MIDA Newton and APIZZA in Boston to much acclaim, followed by MIDA East Boston in the summer of 2023 and DW French in Fall 2023.
